Succulent Swiss Chard, also known as spinach-chard or silverbeet, is one of the most popular green leafy vegetables of European origin.
Medicinal and Nutritional Benefits – Insane amounts of vitamin K: Swiss chard is an awesome source of vitamin K with a ginormous 715% of your recommended daily intake (RDI) for just a ½ cup serving. Vitamin K supports bone mineralization and cell growth. It also helps your body form blood clots to stop bleeding after injury or internal hemorrhages.
Culinary Uses – Swiss chard is a great alternative to spinach. Serve Eggs Florentine with sautéed Swiss chard instead of spinach and add chopped Swiss chard to omelets, frittatas and other egg dishes like soufflés. Use Swiss chard in place of spinach when preparing lasagna and other pasta dishes.
Use raw Swiss chard leaves in salads along with arugula and spinach.
Top off a sandwich with a few leaves of Swiss chard.
